NFL lockout stopped but then back on, Guardiola swears as Mourinho cries FOUL, Gibson's Twitter episode, Wayne's redemption, NFL Draft and the noisy neighbors inappropriate chants....Lethario's Take
So while the rest of the whole world was interested in the Royal Wedding, we are hyped up about sports. Who care about a bunch of Royals getting married...I'm sure even Prince Harry would have skipped the wedding if he could and hit the pub with a couple of the bridesmaids!!! Must say I kinda feel William settled for 2nd best, Pippa Middleton is SUPER Hot...but I couldn't see her pulling off royalty!!
I got this one Will!!!
So 1st thing is 1st, I am DISGUSTED by the noisy neighbor fans for their deplorable chants during their victory vs Blackburn that refer to the Munich Air Disaster that claimed the lives of many Manchester United Players, staff and reporters. It just goes to show how SICK Manchester City fans are. I hope the club deals with this strongly as terrible events like this and Hillsborough should not be the bud of sick jokes and chants as families lost loved ones.
So what is everyone talking about, besides the Royal Wedding? Let's hope someone shipped John Terry and Cashley Cole out of the city of London for the wedding and all the celebrations otherwise we will be having a Royal Scandal and Royal divorce soon.!! The funniest event of the week by far was Darren Gibson's 72 minute Twitter affair. The lad was encouraged to join Twitter by teammate Rio Ferdinand but his reception soon turned sour. Fans gave Gibson a piece of their mind over his form, performances and pretty much everything else over a 72 minute period leading to the lad removing himself from twitter. I'm disappointed!! I didn't get my chance to heckle him and vent my anger about his dismal shooting, lifeless midfield displays and all the other unspeakable opinions I have of him..LMAO
Gibson feels the love from a fan!!!
The 1st semi-final of the UEFA Champions League turned out to be a " Me against the world" scenario as FC Schalke 04 Manuel Neuer's gallantly fought against an exquisite Manchester United led by revived Wayne Rooney who was at his flustered majestic best. It truly was a a great match to watch for the United faithful who will all now be crying for Sir Alex to break bank and sign the Schalke goalie!! Neuer's performance was out of this world. Some compared him to Superman going as far as saying that if one had thrown a handful of stones at him he would have caught every single one of them, SEPARATELY!! That's how good he was!! He was like a bulletproof plate on a car in a war zone, stopping any and all harm by United's consistent flow of attack. You could definitely trust the lad with anything, minus the Mrs, with such handling in the goal. If Bayern do end up getting him then they will have truly acquired the BEST keeper at the moment.
The rest of the team was poor as they were outclassed by a rampant United team who seem to be paying SPECIAL attention to the Champions League this year after spectacular performances against Chelsea on either side of the blip at Wembley vs the noisy neighbors!! As i watched the match I could not help but think to myself, " I f the rest of UEFA Champions League is like this, Manchester United will have to start picking the designs for the Finals suits as well as what color bus they would like to drop the Champions League Trophy from ( Ramos)!!
Come on lad, United is the team for you!
The night was also about Wayne Rooney who even though he was playing the supporting role on the night would have won an Oscar as he played it so well. His performance has had writers and bloggers alike comparing him to Platini and other midfield greats..If the match was The Godfather 2, Neuer was a steely Al Pacino as Michael Corleone whilst Rooney was the breath taking and passionate Robert De Niro as Vito Corleone. He reminded me of a quarterback as he sprayed accurate passes calmly all over the pitch to split the opposition time and time again only for the lead of the night, Neuer, to foil each attack again and again!!
Rooney has a come a long way since demanding a transfer request and has lately admitted he was wrong and that the performances of the team as a whole have left him with egg on his face and you could sense the embarrassment in his tone as he said, "How wrong was I?" in an interview after his master class performance in Germany. I feel the best is still to come of this lad. Midfield is definitely an area his influence will grow in as his career continues. Most of you might not know it but Paul Scholes started of playing as a striker. Rooney surely will have earned his redemption from even the most hardcore United fans by now with his recent displays. It all began with that euphoric bicycle kick against Manchester City!!
United are looking stronger as the season heads for the closing stages. The Final is in sight and I feel Sir Alex will not mind facing either Madrid or Barcelona as this tournament is about playing the best so you can be called the best. Whoever they face, I feel the squads resilience, teamwork and will to win this one for van der Sar will all be catalysts in a United win. I have faith United can triumph at Wembley
Over in Madrid, Mourinho managed to stir up Guardiola so much that the normally smooth operator was left a crazy swearing coach who kind of resembled the meltdowns of Kevin Keegan and Rafa Bennitez. Jose had apparently stirred up the Barac manager because he had used his nickname Pep when accusing Guardiola of being a new distinction of coaches who complain when referees get the decision right, referencing Barca's disallowed goal in the Copa del Rey Final. It seemed to everyone that Mourinho had finally cracked Guardiola and a "Kevin Kegan Love It rant style collapse" was about to follow.
Wednesday night's battle of the Bernabeu was pure theater for all the wrong reasons. Not least because there was some Oscar-worthy acting from the main performers, with Sergio Busquets pulling off his trademark face clutch, some top quality verbal jousting, red cards, fisticuffs and in the 87th minute some football even broke out when Lionel Messi scored a truly amazing goal. For all they hype, the HELL Classico was a show of parking the bus vs diving as both teams clearly disappointed and failed to deliver the anticipated battle of majestic football besides a moment of immaculate football magic by Messi. Messi sliced through the entire Real Madrid defence to score one of the most important games of the season.
Busqets and Dani Alves go through their routine at a Barcelona training session
The Argentine is on his own planet and sees things other players just don't, even the likes of team-mates Xavi and Andres Iniesta. You can almost see Donald Trump starting a campaign to view Messi's birth certificate sop as to expose him as a modern day Hercules!! The goal cemented his place among the greats but I feel that UNTIL he has a World Cup to go with his talents and ethereal displays people may soon forget him. World Cups add credibility to out of this world talent, Pele, Maradona, Zindane, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and the England team of '66 are all remembered while the likes of Platini, Baggio and other World Cup losers only find mention when HARDCORE fans discuss the games' greats.
Barcelona vs Real Madrid part 3 showed us the worst that football can offer and the reason why many hardcore Rugby, NFL and AFL fans classify football as being for softies. Barcelona for all their beautiful passing were embarrassing as player after player dived as if going for Gold at the Olympics. Barcelona should consider participating at London 2012!! Mourinho's statements of Barca receiving favour from UEFA are backed by me. Read or yourself and tell me what you think?? I will not talk about it anymore because just like the Royal Wedding, I'm SICK OF the El Classico!!
So it seems the Final will be Barca vs United....a rematch of Rome 2009. Any predictions?? Unless Barça collapse at the Camp Nou, José Mourinho, who has his reputation at stake will enter the summer " madness window" with only the Copa del Rey to cuddle. Barça will almost certainly win La Liga and the Champions League trophy looks destined for either the team Mourinho would one day like to coach (United) or the club who have blocked his ascent in Spain.
Over in the Barclay's Premier League the weekend brings about the title race and relegation battle continuation as United fight for their 19th title with Chelsea chasing behind. Spurs, man City and Liverpool are fighting for Europe whilst West ham, Blackpool, Wigan, Wolves and Blackburn battle to avoid the drop. Spurs face Chelsea in a London derby whilst Arsenal host Manchester United. I predict a United win and a draw between Spurs and Chelsea ( hopefully).
Over in the USA U.S. District Court Judge Susan Richard Nelson ordered NFL team owners to end their month-old player lockout before they appealed and the lockout remained. The headlines were however taken over by the NFL draft although NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was greeted by resounding "BOOS" at the draft as fans voiced their opinion about wanting the issue resolved so they can have their football back!!!
Number 1
Cam Newton (OBVIOUSLY) was the first draft pick which meat that overall, a quarterback has now been selected No. 1 overall in 11 of the last 14 drafts. Quarterbacks have been selected first overall far more than any other position , 19 times compared to the nine times a defensive end has gone with the top pick. NFL's Balotelli WITH TALENT. Personally I'm big fan of Cam Newton but have realised you either love him or hate him JUST LIKE Balotelli. In my eyes the kid is amazing having headed to the NFL draft coming off a Heisman Trophy, a national title and one of the most statistically impressive seasons of all time: 1,473 rushing yards, 4,327 yards of total offense, 20 rushing touchdowns, 30 passing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown. His 51 touchdowns fell just short of the record (55) set by Tim Tebow in his Heisman Trophy-winning season of 2007.
When his name was called out 1st ,although the boos rang out Cam Newton ignored it all and walked on stage with an impenetrable smile. It took about 10 seconds for the Panthers to make the pick.
The Panthers love Newton and they made the right choice. They would be the dumbest team on the planet to pass on Newton. Dumbest. Ever.
The rest of the draft so far : NFL 2011 DRAFT
Have a great weekend
